This activity, provided by National Geographic, gives students the ability to pick up trash at a park right in front of their SMARTBoard.

I taught 5th grade for 13 years and every year, I used the book, The Wump World by Bill Peet, to teach the importance of recycling.  I am including a link to the lesson for you to use on Earth Day!  You will find The Wump World and The Lorax lessons under the heading, Computers.

Creating a SMART Magic Tunnel

Using a Magic Tunnel in a SMART lesson is a great way for students to discuss information and then reveal the correct answer!  I have used a set of teeth as a magic tunnel in a dental lesson, a barn in farm lesson using beginning sounds, and this lesson a recycle symbol to show rates of disintegration.  Watch the video for a tutorial on how to create a lesson using a Magic Tunnel.

Remember, Be SMART and share it!  Have a great day!  Rhonda

USA: State Location Game

In this activity, students are asked to read a name of a state as it flies across the screen.  They are then asked where that state is located.  If this activity is done in stations, it does have  "correct" or "incorrect" responses for self check.

Enjoy and Remember:  Make the day SMART!  The choice is yours!

Foundation-Communication
This site has several different whiteboard activities to help with ESL students.

This is a simple interactive activity that help students develop reading and speaking skills.  When you begin the lesson, you have several language options.

This site is from the BBC Tikkabilla site.  This activity introduces items and the sound they make.  It also provides mouse practice.  At the end of the activity, you can print the story sentences from the activity.

This site lets you choose an occupation for a character and write about that character.

In this activity, students must first type their name to enter the game. (No sign up is required)  They can choose from three levels.  In this activity, students are given a sentence and several words to choose to fit in that sentence.  They choose the word that best fits in the sentence.

Enjoy these activities on your SMART Board!
